Long Exposure + Colour = Photo

How is it that the Dutch artist Berndnaut Smilde could create a cloud in a room? I can’t tell you, the artist defies categorisation let alone an explanation. Often drawing on a nebulous concept of the “physical presence of transitional spaces,” on one hand Nimbus and Cumulus – the former appearing in the online gallery Probe, the latter (pictured) was visible for mere minutes at HMK {Hotel MariaKapel} earlier this month) are sculptural; no matter how vague, when a physicality is suggested, it occupies that space specifically. On the other, it can only be experienced through documentation and photography but whatever it is, it’s pretty special.

1 MINUTE REVIEWS Here are some books/publications that have been inspiring recently
1. Design:research Exhibition CatalogueI visited the show back in November, and as well as the work inside being inspiring, the publication is really nicely put together. www.lccpgdesign.com
2. The Essential David ShrigleyAnother exhibition I visited recently, was Brain Activity at the Hayward Gallery. Shrigley’s illustrations are fun and thought provoking, and his ‘essential’ book showcase his way of thinking in depth.www.davidshrigley.com/book_htmpgs/essential.html
3. 26 Characters Nokia PureMy favourite recent purchase is a complete in depth look into Nokia Pure, Nokia’s new typeface. The book is beautifully designed, and is a brilliant resource into how much development goes into a new typeface.shop.gestalten.com/twenty-six-characters.html
4. It’s Nice That Issue No.7 It’s Nice That’s new quarterly has a new look and a bunch of new editorial content. Well worth a look. shop.itsnicethat.com/products/its-nice-that-no-7
